First two weeks of school

Date: Sept. 4-14, 2018

In Math we started patterns and looked for patterns in nature.  The students noticed patterns on the playground, the school bricks, and on rocks.  Take a look around your house and outdoors and ask you child if they see any patterns.

In Science we started our first unit of study which is liquids.  We looked at our Earth compared the land and water.  We talked about the importance of water.

In Social Studies we are learning about communities and we the students brainstormed what makes up a community and why communities are important.  The students and the teachers went on a community walk to look at the community around Dalhousie School.  You can walk around your community and look at what services are in your community.

In English Language Arts we are looking a word families such as the "at family"and made words from at such as: that, bat, sat, mat, fat, and cat. we are working on writing in our journals and adding more detail to each sentence.  We started guided reading this week and each student is in a group with other students who are reading at their level.

In Spanish Language Arts we are learning about winter clothing, students are practicing using these key words when they are getting ready for recess. Some of the words we have been practicing are "chaqueta" (jacket), gorro (hat), botas (boots), bufanda (scarf). We have challenged students to use these at home when they are getting ready to come to school or when playing outside.

You Can Help Your Child By: focusing on rhyming words, looking and creating patterns, participating in daily home reading and having your child read daily.

Please Celebrate: We have had a wonderful first two weeks of school and the students are feeling a part of the grade two community.  The students are really enjoying eating in multi-aged groups and have made friends with students in other grades and classes
